We have recently been providing mechanical and electrical co-ordination services on the Longfield’s Hotel project. The Georgian houses are being converted into temporary homeless accommodation by Dublin City Council.
ENGdoc undertook a detailed building survey on the property using Point Cloud Scanning. The scan allowed us to generate a 3D model the existing structure to offer an accurate representation of what the contractors would face on site. As buildings of historic importance, limited space was available for service runs, so an accurate building survey which included details such as floor joist locations and directions was critical in making the engineering design work. The 3D modelling element of the works also provided clear visualisation at an early stage which allowed the project team to make efficient decisions regarding the services design and installation.
Mechanical and electrical services from the design engineer were modelled and co-ordinated within the existing building model. This allowed the services contractors to plan out routes and equipment locations prior to commencing their installation. Pinch points were highlighted and 3D images allowed for easy visualisation of potential installation problems during the co-ordination process.
